The Courier of Montgomery County reports that Montgomery’s annual Voices from the Past history tour will be kicked off by the dedication of a memorial bench honoring Pat Spackey.
The designer of the Texas flag was Dr. Charles B. Stewart. Spackey was his great-great-great granddaughter. She was active in Montgomery County sharing the story of her famous Texas history ancestor, before she died at the age of 82
The Montgomery Historical Society sponsors the bench dedication. From noon to 3 PM the society also plays host to its 7th Annual Voices from the Past living-history tour. Saturday at 11 AM at 408 Plantersville Road, at the Montgomery New Cemetery, the bench dedication begins.
Because of her numerous presentations on Texas history and the state flag, Spackey got the nickname of “The Texas Flag Lady.”
According to a news release from the Montgomery Historical Society, “Pat generously shared her love of Texas history and helped preserve its stories, heritage and spirit for future generations.”
