The Courier of Montgomery County reports that, hoping to explore what it would take to compete for the location of the new U.S. Space Academy are two Conroe City Councilmembers. President Trump spoke of the Academy during his recent trip to Houston.
Thursday, Councilmember David Hairel said, if Conroe was chosen, the “trajectory” of the city would change, moving the economy in a positive direction, attracting educational partnerships and placing the city in the aerospace, technology and defense industries.
During his August 28th visit to the Johnson Space Center, Trump signed an executive order and compared the Space Center to the most prestigious military school in the country.
The Space Academy has, under a new presidential commission, 120 days to recommend the location of the academy, and how it should be created and put into operation. There will be a recommendation by the commission on where the facility should be located, but the final choice will be with Trump.
