The Courier of Montgomery County reports that there are safety concerns for e-bikes and scooters this school year. In Conroe, students will be getting new guidelines for their use.
In the District, most schools have banned riding the devices on campuses. Officials, however, are updating the student handbook to make it a district-wide ban.
Community members have contacted Board President Misty Odenweller, and fellow trustees as well, regarding the devices.
Deputy Superintendent Ted Landry said when students get to campus they will b required to dismount and walk the devices to the bike racks.
In March, the administration surveyed every campus to gather information about incidents, according to Superintendent David Vinson. Parents, administrators and crossing guards received the surveys.
Seventy-one percent of the 102 responses said e-bikes were unsafe for children. Sixty-two percent passed along that they were in support of banning the devices from campus.
