The courier of Montgomery County reports a current goal of Conroe ISD trustees is to expand the district’s Hazardous Route Plan. However, a lack of funding from the state has brought on a $27 million transportation funding gap, This makes expansion difficult.
Forcing the district to add more hazardous bus routes is the rapid growth of students living close to dangerous roadways. A district’s transportation allotment of 10 percent is limited by the state. In the end, the district takes care of most of the local cost. They plan to request additional funding from lawmakers.
Regarding Conroe ISD lack of funds to allay this problem, Assistant Superintendent of operations Chris McCord says, “There would be “no way” of making up that gap.
