Community Impact reports that a historical marker will be dedicated by the Montgomery County Historical Commission to the Montgomery County Hospital during a public ceremony at 9 this morning.
It was the region’s first public hospital when it opened in 1938. Following a statewide polio epidemic, the hospital received its first addition in 1954. Because of growth, by 1982, there was no need for the facility anymore.
Between 2023 and 2024, Overland Property Group renovated the building, turning it into a senior living apartment complex named Landmark 301. The building can be found in the National Register of Historic Places.
In a news release, Montgomery County Historical Commission Chair Larry Foerster said, “The preservation of the old hospital helps restore the early legacy of what was the residential center of Conroe 100 years ago.”
