On February 10th, the city of Willis held a ground breaking for a new building that will house animal control and public works.
Completion of construction on the six-acre property, according to City Manager Sheyi Ipaye, is expected in seven months. Total cost for the project comes in at around $1.2 million to $1.3 million.
Willis currently has an agreement with Conroe to house animals at its shelter.
Ipaye said, “The idea is for us to be able to have our own [facility] and be able to serve the residents of Willis better.” She said that’s the objective.
About four dozen animals—two dozen cats and two dozen dogs—will be housed by the new animal control facility.
Ipaye said having interlocal agreements with outside cities is okay, but having your own is better.
