The Courier of Montgomery County reports that in order to collect discarded live Christmas trees for use as artificial fish habitats, the San Jacinto River Authority has gotten their annual Christmas Tree Drive underway.
To enhance Lake Conroe fishery while cutting down on landfill waste, this month the Authority and Texas Parks and Wildlife are collecting discarded trees.
The trees will have cement blocks attached to them and then will be submerged at pre-determined locations throughout Lake Conroe. The sites of deployment will be put on SJRA’s social media so anglers can use them as fishing spots. The trees are weighed down, because if they are not, they can eventually float free or on the shoreline.
The trees can be dropped off at:
Montgomery County Precinct 1 at 510 Highway 75 North in Willis, Monday through Friday January 13th through the 24th from 8 AM to 3 PM. Donors should check in at the office and are required to unload without assistance.
