Community Impact reports that on December 3rd trustees at Conroe ISD discussed the district’s preliminary Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget. They also discussed that, after a calculation error on the state’s part, the news that Texas districts will receive a refund based on value lost due to Senate Bill 12.
An overview of the district’s current budget and a preliminary look at Fiscal Year 2025-26 was presented by CISD Financial Officer Karen Garza.
At the board meeting to inform them that a calculation error in the state funding allocated for tax year 2023 were Garza, along with Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector Tammy McRae and Interim Chief Appraiser Sherry Hunter.
What was provided by the state comptroller’s office to the local tax assessor was an error that was the result of inaccurate reporting instructions.
Garza reported the error to McRae and began an investigation. McRae said, the result of the investigation has allowed school districts across the state, including CISD, to be eligible to get funds from the state.
Garza said they won’t known the amount until spring, but the conservative estimate for 2023 is $10 million.
