The Courier of Montgomery County reports that part of a 193 mile intrastate natural gas pipeline is under construction in Montgomery County. They expect completion by late next year.
Built by Austin-based Whitewater Midstream, the Blackfin Pipeline will transport up to 3.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily from Colorado County to Jasper County in East Texas. It will go through Austin, Waller, Montgomery, Liberty and Hardin counties and a small part of northwest Harris County.
Spokesperson for Blackfin Pipeline, Cody McGregor, said the pipeline effort will not displace any businesses or homes. He also said it is vital for Texas.
He said as the production of natural gas continues its growth in Texas, the pipeline will make available critical transmission capacity to transfer energy to up to 28 million homes. He says it has its economic benefits also. As its constructed, Blackfin Pipeline will provide employment for over 2,000 skilled workers and pass along an estimated $70 million in taxes to local and state governments.
