The Courier of Montgomery County reports that, in a unanimous decision, Montgomery County Commissioners have settled on a name for the new library and community center in the Woodlands. The facilities will be called the Heroes of Montgomery County Library and the Heroes of Montgomery County Community Center.
Commissioner James Noack says the name dedication is “to all those who served in the armed services and law enforcement.”
The revitalization of the Grogan’s Mill Village Center for $16.5 million will include a community center, new library and 32,000 square feet of retail space.
It’s based on a September 26th land swap agreement. With private funds, Howard Hughes will design, fund and build a new library and community center at the shopping center. The property will be given to Montgomery County, and once construction is complete, they will take over the library and community center located at 2250 Buckthorn Place. Howard Hughes, in exchange, will take ownership of the 5.72 acres of land currently occupied by the South Regional Library and South County Community Center.
Houston design firm PGAL’s Justine Markowski told commissioners in October there will be “some overlap in areas of the facility.” Although the facility has two uses, “it will be used as a shared space.”
