New Waverly Fire Department District Chief Jimmy Williams has reported to us that shortly after 9pm Saturday night, Walker County 911 operators received an IPhone crash notification located on the west feeder of I-45 north of New Waverly.
New Waverly Firefighters and a Walker County EMS crew were dispatched to the area just as Dispatchers received an OnStar crash notification at the same location. The lightly traveled two way feeder road is unlit and no other 911 calls were received.
A New Waverly Fire Engine was the first unit to arrive. The Engine had slowed down as they approached a hill near the reported location. When they topped the hill, two vehicles were lying in the dark roadway with no lights on. Both had severe front end damage and both drivers were trapped behind the wheel. A child was also trapped in one of the vehicles. All three were critically injured.
Fire and EMS crews were able to free all three victims within a few minutes, just as additional Fire and EMS crews began to arrive. The victims were stabilized and rushed to trauma centers in Conroe and The Woodlands.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are conducting the crash investigation.
