Community Impact reports that the next cycle of construction projects in the wake of the $1.8 billion bond approval in November was initiated by the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees on December 12th. Not only that, the board, in regard to planned safety improvements ahead, talked about how it will utilize over $10 million in grant funds.
Assistant Superintendent for Operations for CISD, Chris McCord, informed the board that through the School Safety and Facilities Grant Cycle 1, they have acquired at $10.1 million school safety and facilities grant.
The Texas Administrative Code Chapter 61 mandates that schools across Texas install safety elements like anti-scaling fencing by August of next year. The grant will let CISD be compliant. A safety grant for $2.82 million was given earlier, in the summer of 2023, for the addition of anti-scaling fencing.
Utilizing the companies okayed in 2022, CISD designated pre-construction and design services architects for bond projects ahead. Campus renovations, new schools and master plan projects are the included projects. The next stage is negotiations. Director of Planning and Construction for the district, Easy Foster, passed along to the board that some of their efforts may be able to begin in March.
