The Courier of Montgomery County reports that part of Willis ISD’s $143 million 2022 bond package was approved by Trustees for the construction of a new middle school at a maximum cost of almost $65 million.
Trustees were unanimous in their vote for the approval of a maximum cost of $64.7 million in construction costs with Durotech Incorporated during their special meeting Thursday.
Willis ISD Secretary Chad Jones passed along at the meeting about the “great job” everyone did because the Willis project was around $20 million less than similar-sized school constructions in nearby districts.
According to officials, the project, Middle School No.3, is slated to be open for students in the 2025-26 school year.
Information from Willis ISD says the school will provide for a maximum capacity of 1,400 students in a two-story campus. The school property will include a full complement of amenities, including science labs, a tennis court, football field and track, two gyms with locker rooms and band, orchestra, choir and art areas.
