The Courier of Montgomery County reports that because of a 91 percent increase in veterans served by the department, remodeling has been approved for the county’s veterans service office by Montgomery County Commissioners.
The renovation will not cost the county anything according to Veterans Services Officer Kay Lee, but will let her bring on an additional employee to their Conroe operation at 2247 North First Street to help veterans.
Ms. Lee commented on the rapidly growing local population. She also passed along that many veterans are moving to the state and into Montgomery County to access “the state benefits that are offered to our veterans who have service-connected disabilities.” She said they “are overwhelmed.”
They also help with access to medical care, insurance and education. The county also has an available office at 21679 McCleskey Road in New Caney.
According to the U.S. census, the veteran population in Montgomery County from 2019 to 2021 had grown 11.33 percent to 32,698 from 29,370.
The staff now has access to the Department of Veterans Affairs database. This available information will allow them to better serve veterans.
