The Courier of Montgomery County reports that because of the expected rise in the number of students at Conroe ISD this August, school board members will discuss $1.9 billion in November bond proposals for renovations and new schools at their workshop this month.
At the May 16 Conroe ISD meeting, assistant superintendent of operations Chris McCord talked about student capacity numbers to the board and said they showed no indication of flattening out.
In August, CISD enrollment is expected to rise to 73,394 students. Right now, the district has around 71,000 students.
Around $1 billion out of the $1.9 billion bond package proposals will be set aside for new schools. For major renovations at the Woodlands High School, Oak Ridge High School’s 9th grade campus, Knox Junior High, Creighton and San Jacinto elementary schools, $132 million is earmarked. For new buses and bus infrastructure, just above $22 million is allocated.
Chris McCord said that as the number of students goes up it will present a challenge to the district’s transportation department. The number of students riding buses currently is at around 56,000 with 376 bus routes.
