Community Impact reports that with plans to break ground in May, the Conroe Fire Department has filed a permit for Fire Station #8.
The City approved Station #8 in the 2022-23 Budget. Conroe’s assistant fire chief Mike Legoudes said the location of the new station will be on Conroe’s east side at FM 3083 and Presswood Drive.
He said a personnel hiring process is underway for 15 firefighters. At Station #8, there will be a minimum of four firefighters on their shift at the station.
In regard to the need for the new station, Legoudes said the area in which the station will be located in which has mainly been served by Stations #2 and #3, had some of “the higher call volumes” of the department. He said the new station should “lighten the load.”
He said the current anticipated cost of the station has gone up $1 million from the original projection. The cost of the station is now expected to be $6.5 million. The tentative projected date for the station opening is June of 2024.
