The Montgomery County Courier reports that during the next school year, in order to have enough classrooms for increasing enrollment in their district, Conroe ISD will add 70 portable type classrooms among 23 campuses.
The current count of portable classrooms is 230. These portable building include 35 at high schools, 16 at intermediate schools and 148 at elementary schools.
Last year CISD commissioned a demographic growth study of the district. The result was that they needed to build 25 new schools across several feeder zones.
The study revealed that the district would expand to 100,000 students in a decade. Currently CISD serves about 71,000 students. The 67 schools the district has under operation have a 102 percent average capacity.
