The Courier of Montgomery County reports that on Tuesday Montgomery County commissioners okayed the agreement between the sheriff’s office and Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare that focuses on improving response to mental health type incidents.
A crisis intervention team has been put together by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to aid health officials on calls where a person is experiencing a mental health crisis.
The grant had been awarded to the sheriff’s office back in October for up to $350,000 from the United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
The agreement will have the county act as a pass-through agency for the funds that go to Tri-County which will implement the requirement of the grant which is in effect for two years.
According to Sheriff Rand Henderson a team of four deputies would be assigned by him and would respond, examine and investigate individuals having a mental health crisis along with Tri-County mental health professionals.
