The Courier of Montgomery County reports that volunteers and staff of the nonprofit God’s Garage in Conroe have moved from their smaller building at Texas 105 East to a new 9,800-square-foot operation.
Work on fixing cars from the new site got underway in January. They’re planning a spring grand opening.
The idea behind the ministry, which began in 2011, was to repair donated cars and give them to widows, single moms and the wives of military men in active service.
Justin Coggins is the executive director of God’s Garage. Chery Gegelman is the director of client ministry and volunteers.
About 100 cars a year are given away by the group, and they fix about 70 cars a year. Six-bays are available in the garage with room to add on a seventh. They have a room for meetings and seminars. They have group seminars on life skills, financial planning and other topics at the facility. Before getting their donated car, the ladies who receive the vehicles attend the seminars.
Each year they get around 300 cars donated. If they can repair it, they give it away. If the vehicle can’t be repaired, it is sold at auction with the funds benefiting the group. Director Coggins goal is to provide 500 free cars annually. For more info, visit godsgarage.org.
