The Courier of Montgomery County reports that in order to create a municipal complex Montgomery city officials are moving forward with plans to move City Hall and the police department into the former Jim’s Hardware building.
The location of the current City Hall and police department is at 101 Plantersville Road in Montgomery. Prompting the change, according to city leaders, is the town’s incredible growth and the desire to be closer to the historic district.
Back in 2000, the city, according to Census info, had a population just under 500. The town is now near 3,000 residents according to World Population Review.
Back in August the city took possession of Jim’s Hardware. The proposed project will be on the north end of the historic district along FM 149. The present City Hall is several blocks away.
Mayor Sara Countryman and City Councilwoman Cheryl Fox don’t expect the need for a bond to pay for the project. Their estimate is that the project will cost under $10 million.
