At this week’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council councilmembers heard from the Director of Development Services Kevin Byal.
There was a public hearing and a first reading of an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances by introducing an alternative method for calculating apartment density.
Mr. Byal informed councilmembers.
He continued by stating, “What this change is proposing is that we still have that as a consideration, that calculation, but also incorporate one that looks at just the per bedroom calculation and using the number of 650 square feet.”
He used an example of putting units on a five acre lot. He said.
He said regarding the result “In general I think that would help facilitate the multifamily development in Huntsville and still end up with the same density, but just gives us some flexibility on the number of units.”
