Community Impact reports that on May 21st Montgomery County Commissioners gave the okay to spend $18,000 to assess the scope and cost to build a new animal shelter.
A contract was approved for The ACGM company to come up with preliminary cost estimates for the animal shelter project.
Earlier identified in a needs assessment undertaken in 2023 by design firm PGAL, the county is evaluating two options for a new facility.
Option No. 1 would cost $84 million and encompass 100,854 feet of space. It would have room for 462 dogs and 205 cats.
Option No. 2 would cost $41 million and offer 49,950 square feet and room for 190 dogs and 100 cats.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough referred to the cost as “astronomical.”
According to a letter the county received from ACGM, they will come up with an another cost assessment. Completion time for the estimation is up to one month.
