If your property sustained physical damaged during the flood, you could qualify for a temporary property tax exemption for tax year 2024.
Governor Greg Abbott declared 29 counties including Montgomery County a disaster area on April 30th .
“ Property Tax Code Section 11.35 allows a qualified property with at least 15% damage by a disaster to receive a temporary exemption of a portion of the appraised value” said Tammy McRae, Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector.
Property owners must apply for the temporary exemption no later than 105 days after the governor declares a disaster. The deadline to file the exemption is August 13, 2024.
All property owners with more than 15% damage are encouraged to act promptly to ensure the exemption is granted prior to the deadline.
