Community Impact reports that there are four stroke-designated hospitals in Montgomery County. HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is applying to be the fifth.
They are moving forward on it through the Det Norske Veritas group which is the top level of certification offered by DNV. The four comprehensive stroke centers in Montgomery County are Houston Methodist The Woodlands, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, CHI St. Luke’s The Woodlands and HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, according to Montgomery County Hospital District Chief James Campbell.
Estimates from the Montgomery County Hospital District say 100 strokes per month are being reported from the area in Montgomery County. However, Campbell passed along that the data shows an increase in strokes has not been reported.
To qualify as a comprehensive stroke center, he said a hospital is required to have available physicians, a stroke care team and the technology to treat strokes. He also said stroke patients who wish to receive the highest level of care would require treatment in a stroke-designated hospital.
The MCHD Chief said their “mission is . . . equal care across the county.”
