Community Impact reports that at their February 9th meeting the Conroe City Council gave the go-ahead to creating a recreation specialist position.
It was discussed in their February 8th workshop, which was sparked by the growth being realized in the parks and recreation programs.
According to the Impact story, in a February 10th email Parks and Recreation Director Mike Riggens said the importance of the new position has to do with offering assistance to the recreation coordinator for sports programming to improve youth and adult programs, create new ones and continue to make quality customer service available.
Riggins said the youth soccer program is growing. In 2018 there were 342 participants; in 2021 there were 861 and in 2023 they expect around 1,300.
Riggins passed along that the position will be advertised through regular advertising media and by way of professional affiliations, and he said the staff hopes to install the new employee by this summer.
