The Courier of Montgomery County reports that school districts in Montgomery County continue to grow.
For example, in June 2023 Creekside Elementary School had a groundbreaking ceremony at the schools location behind Lake Creek High School off FM 2854. It was a $43.4 million project. It’s designed for a total of 900 students and is expected to cut into the overcrowding in the Stewart Creek and Keenan elementary schools. A 2022 bond package of $326 million provided the funds for the new school. Also included in the bond plans are a career and technical center, agriculture science center and a junior high school.
Officials have passed along that the new elementary boundary affects those zoned at Stewart Creek and Keenan Elementary. Beginning fifth graders affected by the new boundary are allowed to remain at their current zoned school for the new school year. Families, however, would have to provide transportation.
Students beginning school at Montgomery ISD will start a week later and are also given an additional holiday. They will be returning to school August 15th instead of August 10th. A November 5th holiday is scheduled as school officials presume some campuses will be used as polling places by the county for election day.
There was a change in the lead role at Willis ISD last April. Kimberly James was approved as superintendent. She was formerly deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Corpus Christi ISD.
