The Courier of Montgomery County reports that Montgomery County residents should soon get federal disaster recovery centers.
Commissioners on Tuesday, during a special meeting, okayed providing space for FEMA sites in precincts 1,2, and 4.
Available to all disaster survivors, the FEMA locations are facilities and mobile offices initiated after a disaster.
At the FEMA locations, residents can apply for disaster assistance, learn about disaster assistance programs, check on the status of a FEMA application, obtain housing and rental assistance information and have a meeting with a Small Business Administration agent.
The county has four shelters. Cooling centers at the county’s libraries have also been utilized.
Ten locations throughout the county have been open offering water, ice and food. Executive Director of the county’s Office of Homeland Security, Ronnie Millsap, said 7,800 vehicles have driven through the ten locations to pickup supplies.
Distribution locations vary from day to day. However, those in need may contact the county’s Office of Emergency Management at 936-523-3900 for information.
