The Courier of Montgomery County reports that coming in from Irving are two new Conroe Salvation Army commanding officers. Lt. Cody Johns and Lt. Amanda Johns will be getting potential emergency preparations underway for a hurricane season forecast to be active.
Former commanding officers were Lt. James Guzman and Lt. Claudia Guzman who were transferred to the Beaumont command in June to become retiring leaders.
The Salvation Army of Greater Houston is over the Conroe Salvation Army, but services and local funds are based in Conroe, including support from local resources.
The Conroe organization dates back to the 1970’s. They are located at 304 Avenue E in Conroe.
The love of people and the absence of formality is what led Amanda to the Salvation Army. Cody met Amanda at the age of 17, as she invited him to a Salvation Army Church. That’s where he discovered the love expressed by members of the organization.
During the spring, the Conroe office received a mobile unit to help out in disaster recovery. Amanda and Cody have been working on restocking the mobile units kitchen recently.
In the summertime they are looking for donations of bottled water to give to people. They are also in need of dry goods, canned goods, hygiene products, socks and undergarments for women and men.
