Community Impact reports that on May 7th $2.7 million was approved by Montgomery County commissioners for engineering and design of the expansion of FM 1486 from Jackson Road to Highway 105.
Commissioners, in a meeting of the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority, unanimously voted to okay funding for the HNTB Corporation to get preliminary work underway for Phase #2 of the FM 1486 extension project.
FM 1486 will be widened in Phase #1 of the project from FM 1774 to Jackson Road. Widening will continue for FM 1486 in Phase #2 up to Highway 105.
The new roadway features:
Four travel lanes that are four-foot wide, with two in each direction.
A raised median that is 40-foot-wide.
Outside shoulders that are 10-foot-wide and inside shoulders that are four-foot-wide
A shared-use bicycle path that is 10 foot wide for cyclists and pedestrians.
And drainage along the roadside.
Also included in the project, is design and engineering for a bridge to be undertaken by HNTB Corporation. The bridge will be over the BNSF railroad on FM 1486.
The first phase of the widening construction will not begin until 2028.
