The Courier of Montgomery County reports that, following the approval of a new 2024-25 comprehensive compensation package, Willis ISD teachers should be receiving a $1,500 raise.
As a way to keep staff, back in February stipends were okayed by officials. The stipends include $1,500 for non-exempt employees and $2,500 for exempt employees.
The $1,500 increase was approved in April for counselors, teachers, registered nurses and librarians. A 3% raise for other salaried or hourly staff is also expected.
This follows a decrease in local property tax revenue and state funding which resulted in the district not being able to give teachers a raise for the 2023-24 school year.
A significant cause of the lack of pay raises for teachers and staff last year was due to House Bill 100 not being approved. If it had passed, $3.8 billion would have been allocated to public schools, including a rise in teacher salaries.
