KTRK reports that a legally blind SHSU student was a sexual abuse victim when he was a member of a ministry group at the university.
The abuser, Daniel Savala, who was supposed to be a spiritual leader, used his position to manipulate and groom young boys. Since 2013 Savala has been a registered sex offender. According to KTRK, on Wednesday a lawsuit filed in Harris County alleges the leaders of the campus ministry “still encouraged him to work with children and young adults.”
KTRK reports that attorney Anjali Nigam said, “They fully were aware in 2013 this was an issue with Mr. Savala, and yet still continued to send college students to do mission work at Daniel Savala’s home in Houston.”
