The Courier of Montgomery County reports that Conroe ISD will experience boundary changes with eight new schools, when those schools become active. The plans to build the schools were included in their November passing of a $1.9 billion bond referendum.
Rezoning for the Janet K. Bartlett Elementary on Cielo Drive in Conroe was approved by the board recently. The new campus will open its doors in August for pre-k through fourth grade. It has room for 950 students.
In order to populate new campuses, the rezoning is beneficial. At the same time, the rezoning helps cut down on overcrowding at schools already in operation.
New school boundaries can cause difficulties for parents. However, the undertaking for setting them occurs around a year prior to a new school opening, and families are encouraged to be involved.
In the end, the attendance of all new zones are decided by the board of trustees.
The new schools include a new Conroe High School; a 9th grade campus for Caney Creek; a new junior high for Conroe; a seventh, eighth and ninth grade campus for Grand Oaks; a Woodlands High School feeder elementary; a Texas 242 corridor elementary school; an intermediate school for the Conroe area and a Grand Oaks elementary.
According to Assistant Superintendent for Conroe ISD Operations, Chris McCord, zoning won’t be necessary for the new Grand Oaks campus or the Caney Creek 9th grade campus.
