According to Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector Tammy McRae, the 2023 property taxes must be paid by January 31, 2024 to avoid incurring penalties and interest.
The Montgomery County Tax Office offers numerous options to pay including:
Online using Credit/Debit Card

e-Check
Pay in Person Using Credit/Debit Card at any of the 6 tax office locations
Pay by Mail in the envelope provided
Drop box (Conroe location only)
With Skip the Line- Citizens can Schedule an Appointment Online- this feature is available for all offices. Simply go to the Tax Office website and select the time you would like to come into the office to make your payment.
Ms. McRae said, “We are pleased to provide e-Check service at no cost to our taxpayers. I encourage you to utilize this free service. Property owners choosing to pay with a credit/debit card will continue to see lower service charges this year. The convenience fee charged by the vendor to pay by credit or debit card remains at 2.08%.” Taxpayers may pay online by going to http://mctotx.org and select Property Tax or access their individual account by scanning the QR code on the statement with a smart device. Paper receipts are available upon request or may be printed online.”
Ms. McRae also passed along, “The Tax Office is offering extended hours to pay your property taxes in person. All office locations, including our new Willis branch will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., January 29 – January 31, 2024. She added, “I encourage taxpayers to take advantage of the extended hours and avoid waiting in line.”
All payments, including metered mail, online bill pay and e-checks, must bear a USPS postmark or be received on or before January 31st. Depositing payments in a USPS collection box does not guarantee a postmark for that day and could result in the accrual of penalty and interest if done on or near a delinquency date.
The Montgomery County Tax Office Call Center is available to assist taxpayers with questions weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.
