The Courier of Montgomery County reports that a new school calendar covering two years was approved by the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees on January 16th. The new calendar includes pushing spring break up one week and creating additional long weekends.
In order to get into alignment with other districts and offer teacher exchange days, the district will move spring break to March 10th.
The purpose of having the board consider two year calendars, according to Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Hedith Upshaw, the two school years have comparable footprints. She said their survey recorded almost 16,000 community responses.
She also said, because some of the district employees have children and spouses in nearby districts, the survey collected a lot of responses to take neighboring school districts into consideration.
Exchange days for teachers give teachers the opportunity to bank time from professional learning on their own time, like during summer, to utilize on certain days of the school year. October 11th, November 4th, February 14th, April 21st and May 18th, would be exchange days.
School will get underway in the fall of 2024 on August 14th. The final day of school will be May 23rd. School will get underway in the fall of 2025 on August 13th, with the final day being May 22nd.
There will be 172 days of instruction on the calendar.
