The Courier of Montgomery County reports that National Wreaths Across America Day takes place in December. In cooperation with an effort across the nation to honor veterans in cemeteries, five of the facilities in Montgomery County will join the effort.
In Montgomery County, volunteers are making preparations to insure that by December 16th wreaths will be put on the graves of as many as possible.
The wreath sponsorship deadline is November 28th.
Those in the community who would like to commemorate a veteran or loved one can do so. Those interested can select a customized wreath, or wreaths are available at $17 each, two for $34, five for $85 and 10 for $170.
Sponsorships are available at wreathsacrossamerica.org.
Back in 1992, a businessman from Maine, Morrill Worcester, founded the nonprofit organization Wreaths Across America to spread the annual wreath-laying ceremony from Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony occurs at over 3,700 veterans’ cemetery grounds around the U-S and overseas.
At 11 AM on December 16th, ceremonies will take place where volunteers will put the wreaths on veterans’ graves.
