Community Impact reports that at the first of this month the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office began a program that will make Amber Alert identification cards for families at no charge.
Specialist Crime Prevention Unit Officer Carlos Tavarez passed along that the purpose of the Amber Alert ID cards is to improve the process for lost or missing children. The identical info needed to be put out an Amber Alert will be on the cards, which include:
–the child’s photo.
–important information such as name, identifying marks and birth date.
–medical condition information.
–information on the parents.
–the child’s fingerprints.
According to Tavarez, “This is a simple way to get that information.” He says doing this makes getting the information easier, as when parents are upset and panicking it makes it more difficult to get information. He also said that having the information speeds up the search for the child.
The cards are made through the sheriff’s office. The Kades Corporation sponsors the effort. They funded $5,000 for the equipment.
Parents can call the sheriff’s office, or Contact Carlos Tavarez at 281-297-6523. The card should be updated every two years.
