Community Impact reports that Conroe ISD did not find significant changes in spring testing results from the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, although students in 3rd through 8th grades continue to stay above state and regional averages in most classroom subjects.
According to the results, however, significantly better performance was seen by students on their end-of-course examinations this spring period than in former years.
On August 15, the results for the STAAR test for spring of 2023 were released. The STAAR was done almost completely online for the first time in the spring. As part of the reading and language arts assessment, students took the writing exam which was not given last year. Complete paper exams could be completed by students who required accommodations.
A slightly better performance was recorded by several grades and categories than in spring of 2022, which included science, math and reading:
–In grades three, five six and eight, the reading results slightly improved.
–Seventh grade reading went down by 1 percentage point, while reading for fourth graders stayed unchanged.
–Math scores for fourth and sixth graders remained the same, while math scores went up for grades three, five and eight.
–A two percentage point decrease in the scores was seen in math for seventh graders.
–In science, students in the eighth grade improved by 3 percentage points, while scores for fifth graders decreased from 78% to 76%.
–In social studies, eighth graders improved by a percentage point.
