An article in the Courier of Montgomery County passes along how the Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church at 509 South Third in Conroe, pastored by B-J Plattenburg, is aware of the needs in the Dugan neighborhood.
Pastor Plattenburg said the church, for many years, got together needed things like vacuum cleaners and air conditioners for people.
He said, in the last couple of years, the need for air conditioners became more apparent. People called who needed air conditioners, but they had run out of them and felt sorry about the situation.
Back in June while Pastor Plattenburg was in a conversation with a breakfast group about the extremely hot weather, he passed along a story about a 93-year-old person who had no air conditioning.
It didn’t take long for the group to reach into their pockets and come up with over $500 to buy several air conditioning units. He believes the event was divinely inspired.
Since it started, the group has bought and provided over 30 air conditioners to people who live in Montgomery County.
The breakfast group was begun around a year ago by former Councilmember Duke Coon. The group meets on Saturdays at honor Cafe at 103 North Thompson. It is open to all. The group includes church pastors, business owners and city leaders.
The Lowe’s store in Conroe has helped out a lot. Store Manager Will McBride sold units to the group at cost.
