Community Impact reports that on March 10th the Montgomery City Council moved forward on a one-way traffic design for McCown Street. They also approved outside HR support for the next six months.
As part of the downtown improvement effort, the council okayed plans to designate McCown Street as a northbound one-way street. The current phase, according to city officials, stretches from Caroline Street North to College Street. The project includes angled parking on the east side of the street, added sidewalks, landscaping, pedestrian lighting, overhead lights and intersection upgrades.
Improving walkability while preserving parking in the downtown area is the goal of the local officials.
Rather than the final approval of the full design package, city staff said, during discussion, that the action taken by the council was focused on the street’s direction.
With a cost not to exceed $26,860, the council also approved outsourcing human resources support services to CPS HR Consulting for the rest of this fiscal year. The arrangement, according to city officials allows Montgomery access to senior HR support. It will be on an as-needed basis without signing up for a multiyear contract or the cost of a full-time hire.
Among the companies reviewed, official said the firm’s government-specific experience in the state made it the best fit. The council expects to revisit the service during the next cycle of the budget after observing how much support the city actually uses as the contract will serve as a trial run.
