Fresh off of being swept in 3 games against the Detroit tigers and on a 4 game losing streak the Houston Astros hit their way to victory against the Baltimore Orioles who had beaten the Astros in a 3 game series just a week ago, beating them 7-2 in a nationally televised game.
Trade deadline outfield acquisition Jesus Sanchez had a 5 hit game, the second of his career. First baseman Christian Walker had a 2 run homerun and some incredible defensive plays, and catcher Yainer Diaz was also able to belt a 2 run homerun.
Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young, who came within 4 outs of a perfect game last time he faced the Astros lineup, wasn’t able to maintain his form from his last start and surrendered all 7 of the runs while pitching 5.1 innings.
Starting pitcher Jason Alexander continued his streak of excellence going 5.1 innings allowing 8 hits but only giving up 2 earned runs. The bullpen was able to close the door on the Orioles offense and a;;ow the Astros to break their 4 game losing streak.
The series will continue tonight at 6:05 with Lance McCullers Jr. returning to the mound against Cade Povich.
