Marquel Wiley has been charged with Capital Murder in connection with the shooting that occurred on Essex Boulevard on the morning of August 13, 2025. Responding officers discovered two victims at the scene. One victim was pronounced deceased, while the other was transported by life flight for treatment of serious injuries.
Wiley fled the scene on foot, traveling through the wooded area from Essex Boulevard toward FM 2821, before being taken into custody.
Yesterday, as the situation unfolded, Huntsville Police Department School Resource Officers and Huntsville ISD Administration were notified. Huntsville Elementary, Huntsville High School and several other district facilities in close proximity were placed on Secure status. Huntsville Elementary was briefly placed on Lockdown before that status was quickly changed to Secure.
