The Courier of Montgomery County reports that thanks to action by the Texas legislature, Conroe ISD teachers will see a pay boost in September. The legislature allocated over $4 billion for school employee raises during the 89th Texas Legislative session.
Last week, CISD trustees got its look at the 2026 budget for the district. It will not include a deficit following a $12 million shortfall for 2025.
Now up from the district’s current budget of $711.97 million, Conroe ISD Chief Financial Officer Karen Garza said the preliminary budget for 2026 is $761.05 million.
There’s not only funding for raises, the state also provided funding for other areas including school safety and special education. The tax rate is expected to remain unchanged at 94.96 cents per $100 valuation. According to Garza, that funding is critical for the upcoming year.
She said that regarding a $4 million deficit the district was facing earlier this year, “This has, by far, gotten us out of a hole.” The proposed starting teacher’s pay, according to Garza, will increase from $60,000 to $64,000.
