The Courier of Montgomery County reports that last Wednesday, a Montgomery County Historical Marker was presented at Montgomery Elementary School to commemorate Montgomery ISD’s 100th anniversary.
Located at 13755 Liberty Street, the Montgomery Elementary School is also the location of the original Montgomery High School where on January 7th, 1984 it was destroyed by fire.
The marker dedication and placement was a project of the Montgomery County Historical Commission and Montgomery ISD staff and officials.
Guests were welcomed to Montgomery Elementary by Principal Bobby Ingalls. The school’s fifth-grade choir and Montgomery High School Madrigals gave musical tributes.
Vice-chair for the Historical Commission, Victor Uher (YOU-her) talked about the district’s history.
The legacy of the school district was commented on by Montgomery ISD Superintendent Mark Ruffin along with Matt Fuller.
Back in 1846 the Montgomery School Association was formed. On March 16,1925, the Texas legislature established the Montgomery Independent School District.
It all began with one schoolhouse in 1925 and eventually grew to 11 campuses with over 9,900 students in 2025.
