The Navasota Examiner reports that, in a crash on Texas 90 near the Grimes and Madison County line that occurred Friday night, three Grimes County people were killed. A woman from Huntsville is suspected of causing the crash. Around 10:49 PM Friday, April 4th, a 2011 Nissan Altima and a 2006 Hyundai Elantra were headed southbound on Texas 90 near Edgewood Lane, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Justin Ruiz.
Traveling northbound on Texas 90 was a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Cassy Brizendine that began to pass in the southbound lane hitting the Nissan head-on—then hitting the Hyundai.
Forty-two-year-old Cheryl Kubiak, the driver of the Nissan, along with two passengers, 18-year-old Chassity Cowgill from Plantersville and 23-year-old Wyatt Humphrey of Navasota were all pronounced dead on the scene. Eighteen-year-old Robert Qualley of Donie was taken to CHI St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan with suspected serious injuries.
Cassy Brizendine was taken to St. Joseph Health in Madisonville with suspected serious injuries. The Hyundai driver was not injured.
Sergeant Ruiz reported that criminal charges against Brezendine are pending. There is an ongoing investigation.
