The Montgomery County Fair gets underway at nine this morning featuring Senior Citizen’s Day at the Lone Star Convention Center. The first day the carnival opens on the grounds is today.
There will be concerts Friday and Saturday night. The concerts follow the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association rodeos both nights. The fair queen is crowned Saturday night. Junior non-livestock judging takes place Friday and Saturday. Junior livestock judging runs Saturday through Wednesday. On April 11th and 12th the Busch Light BBQ Cook Off will be held. On April 13th, El Dia de La Familia Hispania will be held.
The fair will feature 90’s country favorite Sammy Kershaw and newcomer Jacob Stelly. On Saturday Kershaw will perform. Stelly performs on Friday. Their performances will follow the rodeos on Friday and Saturday that begin at 6 PM. The location of the concerts is outside adjacent to the fair’s rodeo arena.
The 21-and-up Horseshoe Club offers the Ziegenbock Saloon and the Frost Bank Wine Garden.
Agricultural and educational activities for all ages, including a goat mountain, pony rides, the livestock birthing center, the petting zoo and AG-venureland is being offered by the Buckalew Chevrolet Ag Knowledge Barn.
Fairgoers can enjoy events like a tractor pull contest, pig races, the interactive Flower Pedal Ranch for young ones and the Kid’s Wild West Show.
Monday through Thursday admission to the fair and parking are free during fair week.
Admission is $15 for 12 and older at the gate and $5 for ages 5 through 11 on Friday and Saturday both weekends. Tickets are also available at $10 for 12 and over and $5 for ages 5 to 11 on the fair website.
This Friday and Saturday the ticket purchase includes admission to the rodeo and to the concert that follows the rodeo.
Parking lots are located at the south end of the fairgrounds along Airport Parkway and on the north end of the fairgrounds along Carl Pickering Memorial Drive.
