Community Impact reports that a $1.6 million budget for the Conroe Animal shelter was approved by the Conroe City Council. The shelter is now operated by the city.
The City Council ended their contract with it’s former operator Care Corporation after a dog injured itself at the Conroe Animal Shelter in July.
The shelter is now operated by the Conroe Police following the council’s rejection of a bid submitted by Texas Litter Control in October.
According to the agenda item, the shelter had been operating with an insufficient budget of $847,417. During the December 11th workshop meeting, interim Police Chief Lee Tipton said the budget funded 12 part-time employees and two part-time veterinarians.
Presented at the workshop, the $1.6 million budget includes:
From the reserve fund–$907,741
From the general fund–$502,583
From a reserve fund transfer–$250,000
Tipton passed along during the workshop meeting their goal is to have one full-time veterinarian and 16 full-time employees with a projected cost of $1.2 million.
