The Courier of Montgomery County reports that on Friday the Texas Historical Commission will be reopening Fanthorp State Historic Site in Anderson.
An extensive renovation project has been under way on the site which is just outside of Montgomery County in Grimes County.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled from noon to 1 PM. Stagecoach rides are available around the site from noon to 4 PM.
Texas Historical Commission Chairman John L. Nau, III, said in the 1800’s Fanthorp was called “the finest inn in the south.”
The restoration project concentrated on exterior features, windows, siding, the roof and paint. Restoration was managed by Phoenix Restoration and Construction. Interior renovations were made by the work crews, which included painting and providing the rooms with more period furnishings.
The Fanthorp Inn started out as a two-room log dogtrot cabin back in 1834. Texas was still a part of Mexico at the time. It had grown to a 17-room complex by 1850.
