On Monday August 5, 2024 around 4:55 PM Walker County Communication Center received a call from Grimes County Sheriff’s Office that they were involved in a pursuit of a stolen Ford Mustang from Arlington, Texas that was headed into Walker County on FM 1696.
Deputies with Walker County Sheriff’s Office were able to deploy tire deflation devices successfully within the 500 block of FM 1696. A short distance later the vehicle came to a stop on the side of the roadway and two suspects fled the car in separate directions.
The driver of stolen vehicle was spotted by law enforcement running between homes off of Hardy Lane and was taken into custody with the help from a canine unit. At which time he was discovered to be a 16 year old juvenile from Arlington, Texas (his identity will not be released). He is being charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (SJF) and Evading in Vehicle (F3) and is being held in the Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention facility.
Approximately 50 minutes later the second suspect was apprehended in the woods south of FM 1696 by canine teams. He is identified as Gecoren Smith McQuinney, 19 years old from Grand Prairie, Texas. He is being charged with Evading, Possession of Marijuana, Unlawfully Carry of Weapon (MA) and various warrants.
The investigation is still unfolding and detectives with Walker County Sheriff’s Office are collaborating with various agencies to piece together the suspect’s connections to other aggravated robberies across the State.
Sheriff McRae is grateful to all the agencies that assisted in taking two violent criminals off the streets this highlights the importance of teamwork in handling such critical situations to ensure public safety.
