The Courier of Montgomery County reports that Montgomery County officials are proposing a 2025 budget that would allocate an additional $22 million in tax funds over the current budget.
Montgomery County’s 2024 budget was $432.6 million. Their 2025 budget is higher, coming in at $454.3 million.
The current tax rate of the county is 37.64 per $100 valuation. It is unclear at this time how the larger budget would affect the tax rate.
Budget Officer Amanda Carter passed along Tuesday that to get to the completed budget they “have quite a way to go.”
For 2025 heads of departments asked for 116 new positions, 110 of them were full-time positions. Twenty-eight of those proposed positions were included by Carter in the preliminary budget. The cost for the 28 was around $2.8 million.
Law enforcement positions made up most of the requests, 62 in all. A dozen made it to the preliminary budget.
Higher costs are being experienced by the county in economic development, higher costs of operations, information technology and an increase for the road and bridge fund of each commissioner of $2 million.
An increase in jail food service and medical care costs is expected. More increases include higher utilities and phones costs; an increase in the county’s part of the Montgomery County Appraisal District budget and an increase in the information technology budget for storage and security.
The next budget workshop is August 13th.
