Community Impact reports that on July 15th, a new partnership was announced by Project Beacon to join with Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare to put together a housing market analysis whose focus is to address housing needs for adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Concentrating on improving the quality of life for kids and adults with neurodiversities like autism, Project Beacon is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
First Place Global Leadership out of Arizona will conduct the study. The study will assess the circumstances that prevent disabled and neurodivergent persons from getting proper housing, such as factors which include income, accessibility and job availability.
The study will be open to input from caregivers, advocates and other individuals from July 25th through September 6th. Project Beacon will hold a Zoom webinar on July 25th. The purpose of the webinar is to put forth information of how the study will be conducted and gather insights from participants.
In August of 2023 a number of issues came up regarding vulnerable populations getting affordable housing in a 1,068 page report put together by the Montgomery County Office of Community Development. These issues included:
–Lack of sufficient fair housing education and efforts involving outreach
–The need for greater enforcement of fair housing laws
–The deficiency in affordable available housing that can be accessed by disabled persons
–Among persons of color. higher unemployment rates which result in disproportionate costs
